How to Prepare for Your Senior Photo Portrait Shoot

( By the way, this also applies to all other Portrait Shoots as well )

Outfits are not the only thing that you should worry about when it comes to senior photo shoots. You also have to consider your hair style, makeup, shoes, accessories, props and other senior picture ideas to get a picture perfect.

Outfits:
There are certain things you must keep in mind while going for any senior picture outfit ideas:

Be ready with at least five pairs of outfits that fit you well and make you look good.
Make sure that you choose variety of clothing designs and patterns, such as formals, trendy, casuals, etc. Maintain the variety in colors as well.
Avoid overtly trendy and loud fabric. Remember that photo shoot is for a yearbook and not a fashion magazine.
Also avoid clothes with wordings and pictures, except a logo of the school.
Ensure that you feel comfortable in all the outfits.
Keep all the outfits ready at least three days before the shoot.
The most important thing is that the outfits are you and who you are.

What to Wear for Senior Pictures for Guys:
Guys should carry at least one formal three piece suit along with a suitable tie. Nothing can beat a nice pair of jeans and t shirt. A formal shirt and trousers is also a timeless classic and one of the popular senior picture ideas for guys. Guys can also experiment with mix and match clothes that look stylish and peppy. They can also play with caps, hats, and different types of jackets and blazers to get a unique look.

What to Wear for Senior Pictures for Girls:
Girls should go for outfits that are not overtly sexy or dresses which show off a lot of flesh. It does not mean they have to wear boring clothes. They can choose fashionable yet descent outfits that look classy. A pair of dark skinny jeans with a well fitting top is one of the great senior picture ideas for girls. They can also go for formal or casual skirts and experiment with their lengths. A well fitting black dress is also a must for a senior photo shoot. Girls can experiment with different sleeve patterns, neck lines, colors, and basic designs of outfits.

Hair:

Accessories:
It is important that you pay attention to your accessories as well. Guys should make sure that they have all the belts, ties, tie pins, bags, glasses, handkerchiefs, etc., ready with them. You should see that everything is matching perfectly to your outfit. Girls should also make sure that their hair accessories, jewelry, bags, belts, scarvs, etc., are arranged properly for each outfit. It is advisable for you to make separate sets of each outfit with relevant accessories so that you do not get confused on the day of the shoot.

Footwear:
You must also arrange for compatible footwear for each outfit so that you get a perfect and complete look. Make sure that the shoes are polished nicely and also check to make sure that laces, socks, etc., are also arranged. Girls should also check if the shoes go with their clothes properly. It is advisable to take a trial of the shoes and check if they are comfortable. You may have to wait in the same shoes on the day of the shoot so it is important that all the footwear you select are comfortable. ( I, as the photographer, always suggest High Heels. They dress up the shot and give shape to the calves, and extend the body.)

Props:
Some photographs would require you to pose to get a perfect look. For example, if you want to flaunt a sporty look, then a football or tennis racket, or whatever sport look you are seeking, has to be there. If you want a music artist look, then a guitar or violin, etc., needs to be brought to the shoot location. If you want to show that you are an animal lover, then you have to carry your pet dog or pet cat along with you to get the picture perfect. You should also arrange for your own vehicles, cycles, or bikes, if the photo requires so.

Grooming:
As I said earlier you must look your best and for that you may have to visit a salon or a spa. Your hands and legs can be seen in various portrait poses so it is advisable to go for a pedicure and manicure to avoid any embarrassment. You may have to pose for the close up shots so it is better to treat all the dark circles and dark spots on your face that would give you a flawless complexion. Girls should wax their hands and legs and unwanted facial hair at least three days before the shoot. Guys should shave properly on the day of the shoot if they need a clean look. Wear a nice and suitable base makeup on the day of the shoot.
